Q: IF I’M CHOSEN FOR THE SHOW, HOW MUCH TIME IS INVOLVED?

A:  Not going to lie – it’s quite a bit of time! Being on the show is a commitment, where flexibility and spontaneity are big assets.  Before the show even begins filming, there are several meetings to get to know you and assess your space. Once filming begins, it takes four full 10-hour days of on-camera work, plus a few 1/2 days here and there.  The  average renovation takes four weeks to complete.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION?

A:  Candidates must have a realistic budget to contribute to the renovation, and time to appear on-camera for 6 non-consecutive shoot days over one month.  To be eligible for consideration, your home must be located within the Greater Toronto Area in Canada.

NB:  Due to city zoning bylaws, the following locations are not eligible for consideration:  Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Maple, and Woodbridge.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LOOK FOR IN HOMEOWNERS FOR THE SHOW?

A: We are looking for outgoing, vivacious, warm people who are true team players.  We are interested in people who are adventurous, fun-loving, strong, and can hand the reins over to Scott and the team who make ALL of the decisions for the option you select.  We need people who can commit to our shooting schedule, but can still be flexible when it comes to being available for on-camera moments during the renovation. Of course, integrity, sincerity, a good story, and appealing personality are all part of it.

Q:  IF I WANT TO RENT OUT MY BASEMENT, DO THE CEILINGS NEED TO BE A CERTAIN HEIGHT?

A:  Yes, if you have a basement, please measure the ceiling heights at their minimum and maximum heights, and under all duct work and support beams.  Minimum clearance is 6’5”” under ducts and support beams, and 6’11” in 75% of the area.  Before considering any project, we first need to ensure that the project can ultimately meet guidelines determined by the Ontario Building Code.

Q: HOW MUCH DO THE HOMEOWNERS HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR RENOVATION? IS THERE A MINIMUM BUDGET?

A: Homeowners need to have a realistic budget for the job they want done.  Before your project is 100% accepted, our team of design and construction specialists will visit the site to assess the scope of work and required budget. As a general guideline, the minimum is $10,000 to refresh an existing apartment.  To update kitchen, bathroom and paint is a minimum of $15,000.  Creating a separate entrance is a big, expensive job –costing around $15,000 for the entrance alone.  Digging out a basement can run over $25,000.
